Butter Bells

A French-style butter bell — sometimes called a butter crock — is one of those timeless kitchen objects that quietly blends practicality with style.

Made in two simple parts, it consists of a cup-shaped lid and a matching base. Softened butter is pressed firmly into the lid, which is then inverted into the base holding a little cold water. That water forms a gentle airtight seal, keeping air away from the butter and allowing it to stay fresh and perfectly spreadable at room temperature.

Long used in French kitchens it sits comfortably on the countertop, always ready — for morning toast, a slice of crusty bread, or something warm just pulled from the oven.
